|The Association of Catholic Publishers (ACP) members elected four board members with a wide variety of experience in publishing and from music, curriculum, and parish resource publishers. “These new board members are strong examples of how to be actively engaged in the work of the Association in order to impact the Catholic publishing field,” noted executive director, Therese Brown.
Members elected Tom Hawley (GIA Publications, Inc.), Jennifer Odegard (World Library Publications), Mike Raffio (Pflaum Publishing Group), and Mary Wuertz von Holt (Liguori Publications) to three-year terms beginning in March 2018.
Current treasurer, Tom Hawley is the Vice President of Operations at GIA. He is a CPA and received his Bachelors in Accountancy from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and has worked in Public Accounting for seven years where GIA was one of his first clients. He worked as an Accounting Software consultant from 1995 to 1997 when he came to GIA. Tom is an Alderman for the City of Blue Island where he is also the Mayor Pro-Tem, Chair of the Community Development Committee and a member of the Finance Committee.
Jennifer Odegard, Chief Publishing Officer for (WLP), is a native of Chicago and a graduate of Northwestern University. Prior to joining the WLP marketing team in 2002 as Assistant Director of Marketing, Jennifer was Assistant Director of Marketing/Promotions and later Marketing Director/Manager at Liturgy Training Publications, part of the Archdiocese of Chicago. She served as WLP’s Director of Marketing for 9 years. Jennifer has more than two decades of experience in Catholic publishing and understands the challenges and opportunities in parish life, based on her own experience in liturgical ministry and catechesis. She previously served on the board of the Catholic Book Publishers’ Association, just prior its rebranding as the Association of Catholic Publishers.
Mike Raffio has worked in Catholic publishing companies since 1986. He is currently the Vice President and Director of Sales at Pflaum Publishing group in Dayton, OH. As a current ACP board member, he serves on the marketing committee for the Mid-Atlantic Conference (MAC) and, through Pflaum’s sponsorship of MAC, has worked to increase attendance each year.
Mary Wuertz von Holt is the director of sales, marketing, and product development, and a member of the Leadership Team of Liguori Publications. Jesuit educated, she received her bachelor’s from Marquette University, Milwaukee, majoring in journalism and publishing; and her MBA from Loyola University, Chicago, specializing in marketing and computer science. Mary has two decades of experience in branding, integrated marketing, database marketing, and sales channels at the global advertising agencies DraftFCB and Grey Advertising. In her role at the Archdiocese of Chicago under the late Cardinal Francis George, she coordinated the Cardinal’s Latino Advisory Group, and managed the To Teach Who Christ Is capital campaign where she raised $400 million.
The Association of Catholic Publishers (ACP) is a membership organization of Catholic publishers, those who provide services to Catholic publishers, and individuals who work with Catholic publishers. The ACP provides opportunities for members to further the Catholic publishing industry, promote Catholic publishing and reading, and engage those they interact with including retailers, pastoral leaders, individual customers, and staff.
