First Annual Catholic Tent Revival a Big Success

Over 2,000 people gathered at the Malvern Retreat House near Philadelphia on Oct. 7 for the inaugural Catholic Tent Revival a family event offering music, games and internationally recognized speakers.  Auxiliary Bishop Timothy Senior, along with diocesan priests, celebrated Mass after the recitation of the rosary, joined by seminarians from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.

This was the first event of its kind in the 106-history of the retreat house and individuals and families from several states were in attendance.  “The success of this event exceeded all our expectations, “said Mark Poletunow, president of Malvern Retreat House.  Over 100 volunteers helped stage the event which was admission-free paid by several sponsors.

Speakers included Father James Blount, S.O.L.T., Jesse Romero, Deacon Harold Burke-Sivers and lay witnesses Kathleen McCarthy and Jennifer Hubbard.  Teresa Peterson and her band led the people in praise and worship music drawing everyone into prayer. Marty Rotella, three-time Grammy nominee, rallied the crowd with his new theme song for the retreat house, “Come as You Are, You are Welcome Here,” while Rob Evans, “The Donutman,” entertained the younger children.

The next Catholic Tent Revival is scheduled to take place at the Malvern Retreat House on June 28-30, 2019.
